Off screen

Wears a cheap ring she won't have valued.
Keeps a velvet tray that is never empty.
Spots paste from across a room.

The question she needs answered

A flaw worth looking at.
Someone who lets her decide the price.

Where she cuts

Won't value the ring.
Never lies about a stone.

How she delivers a line

Cool and precise, with jeweller's vocabulary: 'clarity', 'inclusion', 'cut'. Appraises people in short lines. Never rushes a verdict. Her warmth is an extra carat nobody sees coming.

Which side you took

You laid something on her velvet tray and she hasn't touched it yet.

She is looking at you through the loupe.
